Frequently Asked Questions for Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

You are here:

What is Hypnosis and how does it work?

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are not a new type of therapy. Evidence shows these methods being used in the times of ancient Egypt and across the world under different names.

Hypnotherapy is a method that uses the power of your unconscious/subconscious part of your mind to rectify/alter issues you may have, that are in conflict with the conscious part of your brain.

An example could be your conscious mind knows it is not healthy to over eat, but your unconscious mind (which is your internal programming), does it regardless perhaps due to a ‘life lesson’ of being told: “Finish what is on your plate”.

Another way of looking at this could be, imagine a very old computer and the programs it would have within it. If you tried to run a modern programme with today’s technology, the computer would crash and not be able to perform. What you would need to do is load a new programme within it, so it could accept the modern day software or perhaps replace certain processors.

The human mind is the best computer ever created but sometimes we are running outdated, sometimes harmful software. With the best will in the world, it will struggle until it has an upgrade so it can perform better and faster than before.

My aim is to help and support you whilst you release limiting thoughts and feelings and go on to realise and achieve your full potential.

Do I lose control/Can I be made to do something I don’t want to?

The answer is no. Hypnotherapy (which is hypnosis with a therapeutic aim) is very different from stage shows/TV programmes and a different style of trance is reached. It is the hypnotherapist and the client working together in partnership and collaboration. If a suggestion was offered to the client which did not fit within their moral code, they would simply reject it.

Can I become lost in a trance? What if I cannot be woken up?

I’ve included this question as its actually quite a common one. Again, Films and TV programmes have created a false belief here. There has never been a case of a client being unable to come out of a trance.

How many sessions will I need and how long is each session?

This is difficult to answer without knowing what the issue(s) are. The first session we have will be for between 60-90 minutes. Subsequent sessions last for 1 hour. Some sessions can be as quick as 1-2 appointments. At times, a short course of treatment is required. This is something we can discuss in our first session.

What should I expect in the sessions?

Session one involves having an assessment which enables me to identify the most effective methods to employ. We would then have a discussion about the number of sessions required before finishing with a session of hypnotherapy. This may rectify the issue you have. However, if it is a small course of treatment that is needed, we will meet again in session two.

From session two, we again are actively addressing the issue(s) and because you will have already experienced hypnosis in your first session, you will find it even easier to enter a trance.

Depending on the issue(s), and how well your subconscious mind takes the hypnotic suggestions, sessions needed can actually reduce. Clients who are presenting with multiple topics, generally find that dealing with one, positively impacts on another.

For example a client who presents with a dual issue of lack of confidence and a weight issue, may find that as the hypnotherapy begins and they begin to lose weight, their confidence increases, and vice versa.

What does Hypnosis feel like? Will I remember what has happened?

Each person is different and they decide on how light or deep their Hypnosis session will be. You will either remember all or parts of the therapy. Clients frequently say they have found the sessions extremely relaxing, therapeutic, and understood whilst feeling supported throughout.

For some, the changes begin immediately whilst for others (i.e. clients for weight loss), albeit the emotional changes are very quick, they notice the physical changes within 7-14 days such as clothes feeling looser, more energy etc.

Do you offer Skype sessions?

Yes, Skype is becoming very popular for Hypnotherapy and Hypnotherapists alike.  All that is required is a good internet connection and ensuring you have the time set aside for yourself where you will not be interrupted. If this is an option you would like to explore, please mention this on the contact form.

Are you with a governing body and are you insured?

Yes. I am an affiliated member of the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and a certified member of the Andrew Parr Association (MAPA). I am also fully insured and hold an up to date Disclosure and Barring Certificate (DBS).

Do you offer a discount?

Yes. I offer 10% discount on every session to military and emergency services, serving or retired, including civilian roles, on production of identification of service

If you are claiming a discount, please mention this on the contact form at the time of the booking.

What is the cost and how do I pay?

This will depend on the style of help that you are seeking.

Hypnotherpy is £150 per hour. For smoking cessation (stopping smoking), this is a one-off double session and the cost is £250 (a saving of £50).

Counselling and Life Coaching is £50 per hour.

You can either pay by cash, card, or pay-pal.

Installments are also an option which can sometimes help spread the cost. If this is something that you would like to consider, please mention this on the contact form and we can discuss a payment plan that can work for you.

Please be advised, If you cancel without 48 hours notice, you are still liable to pay for the cost of the session.
